DJ Moore: Fantasy Value With Chicago Bears?

DJ Moore: Fantasy Value With Chicago Bears?

We know that Ryan Poles botched the return on the number one overall pick, but none of that really matters for fantasy football. Now that DJ Moore is a member of the Chicago Bears, what does it all mean for fantasy owners? In short, probably not much. Not to bury the lead or anything but Moore dynasty owners should probably look to sell their fantasy stock before it’s too late…

Moore, 25, is probably one of the most overrated receivers in the entire league. He’s overrated in terms of real life ability and overrated in terms of fantasy value. That’s just the truth.

The former Panthers wide receiver recorded 63 receptions for 888 yards and seven touchdowns. Good enough for WR20 in fantasy last season. Moore has never finished as a top 15 wide receiver in fantasy with his highest finish coming in 2020 as WR17. Chase Claypool, Marvin Jones, and Brandin Cooks were the three names ahead of him that year so what does that really even mean?

We know Moore’s skillset. He’s a deep ball guy with a limited route tree. He’s never going to win his fair share of contested catches nor win separation routes. Moore’s target separation of 1.58 ranked 73rd in the NFL in 2022. He’s 85% of what Calvin Ridley is from a pure talent perspective. I thought that at the time of the draft and that’s essentially been the case since the two entered the league together.

I fail to see how the move to Chicago is a positive for Moore in terms of fantasy. Chicago sported the league’s worst passing attack in 2022 (130.5 passing yards per game). Yes, I do believe Justin Fields will take a step forward but how much of a step forward? Does the Moore addition really fix all of their issues? Because that’s not something I’ll buy. At the end of the day, Chicago will still be a run first attack. That includes Fields which will limit passing production in terms of yardage and potential touchdowns up for grabs.

There has never been a time in the history of fantasy football when DJ Moore has won your fantasy league. There sure as hell have been plenty of times he helped lose your league when you overdrafted him. Proceed carefully when it comes to Moore in 2023. If not, you’re going to get your heart broken.

This is the second time Poles has panic traded for a receiver. I told you at the time the Claypool deal was nonsense. This one is no different. The juice won’t be worth the squeeze this time either.
