Lost in all the BS with the sign stealing scandal, Nolan Arenado is on the trade block and available. Nobody seems to care. Well, now things are getting turned up a notch. With Arenado’s names being floated in trade rumors, the Rockies third baseman is NOT happy. It sounds like Arenado has requested a trade.
“I really don’t care what’s being said,” Arenado stated to Saunders. “I just know that I feel disrespected over there.” He offered similarly antagonistic words to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, writing in a text that “there’s a lot of disrespect from people there that I don’t want to be a part of” but otherwise declining to elaborate.
“There’s a lot of disrespect from people there that I don’t want to be a part of,” Arenado said in a text. “You can quote that.”
There’s your answer, right? It sounds like Nolan Arenado wants out. How can you blame him? Arenado, 28, is one of the best players in baseball and in the middle of his prime. After signing an 8 year deal worth $260 million, the Rockies hot corner man made sure to live up to the deal. In 2019, Arenado slashed a line of 315/.379/.583 and hit 41 home runs with 118 RBIs.
There is no other way to quantify it. This man is a superstar. I can see why the Rockies shopped him. Colorado won 71 games in 2019 and really aren’t close to contending. They have very little pitching and Arenado is a one man show for the most part on offense.
Now GM Jeff Bridich said that wouldn’t be traded, but he may not have a choice anymore. Bridich did little to cool the rumors until Arenado got angry. But the way the Colorado third baseman is speaking, he seems to feel disrespected and doesn’t want to be part of the rebuild. Seems like only a matter of time before a deal gets worked out.
It doesn’t matter that Nolan has a huge contract. He’s a superstar and teams will want him. The Cardinals are one team that reached out but talks didn’t get very far. It remains to be seen which other teams will try to get a deal done. With all the talk about Francisco Lindor and Mookie Betts on the block, Nolan Arenado has jumped to the top of the list for star that will get moved.
