I just finished Succession finally. I have a short review of the show that you can read here. I would give it a bump up after the way season four ended. Absolutely electric ending to the show (I promise I’ll try to limit spoilers). The only thing that really bothers me about the show is the way Logan Roy died. We all knew that day was coming but are we sure Logan Roy didn’t deserve a better death in Succession?
*Some spoilers included. Feel free to return after watching the entire conclusion of the show.
The thing that bothered me is we never actually saw the big guy go out. It was just a back and forth on the phone. The best we ever got was a shot at Logan’s feet as people pump on his chest. Maybe one could argue that they were going for realism and this just felt like what would actually happen? I’m not sure. I just would have liked to see the old man go out in more of a blade of glory. Especially when the show is basically about how and empire comes crumbling down.
Apparently, actor Brian Cox wasn’t thrilled with the way he was written off either. Cox actually liked the scene. He just thought it was way too early into season four. Cox’s character (Logan Roy) died in the third episode of season four. One could argue that maybe he should have been kept around for another five or so episodes into that season?
“[Armstrong] decided to make Logan die, I think ultimately too early,” Cox said via Rolling Stones. “I mean, he’d made him die in the third episode. And it was a great scene. That’s why I didn’t watch it, because I have no interest in watching. My own death will come soon enough. But I just thought, ‘Wow,’ you know, he did it brilliantly. It was a brilliant scene, the whole act.”
Let us know in the comments. Were you okay with the way Logan Roy was written off the show? Did he deserve a better death? Despite how brilliant the show was, I think that portion the writers missed the mark on.
