Did The Celtics Hire Jeff Van Gundy?
The Celtics are really beefing up this coaching staff. This move hasn’t been reported yet but it’s hard to ignore this recent development. Did the Celtics actually hire Jeff Van Gundy? We have some evidence to show you.
Credit to the Reddit warriors for this. Van Gundy is currently listed on the Boston Celtics website as a “Senior Consultant”.
Something has to come out about this eventually. It feels like only a matter of time since he’s listed on the team website. Unless there is another random person named Jeff Van Gundy out there, it appears the former ESPN broadcaster is back in the coaching realm.
Van Gundy, 61, was fired by ESPN this Summer. There have been rumblings that Van Gundy wanted to get back in the coaching game but nothing has materialized to this point. It appears that has now changed.
Give Van Gundy credit. He picked a hell of a landing spot. Being a “Senior Consultant” for this Celtics team is a pretty good gig. The Celtics have to be one of the favorites to win the title based on the group they’re going to trot out. When you have a starting five of Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis, I’m quite sure Van Gundy is going to enjoy being part of that team.
Joe Mazzulla needs all the help he can get. Sam Cassell is another notable hire made by the Celtics this offseason. Regardless of what you think of Mazzulla, the staff is significantly better around him compared to a season ago.
