I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that DeVante Parker watched one day of Johnny Wilson at rookie minicamp and said to himself… “yeah, I’m done”. After signing a deal with the Eagles this offseason, the former first round pick in 2015 is calling it quits and has announced his retirement from the sport.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
“I want to see my kids, spend quality time with them,” Parker said. “I want to be there for them whenever I can.”
“I also appreciate the Dolphins for drafting me and giving me the opportunity. I always will have love for the Dolphins and their organization,” he said. “And I want to thank all the teams — the Patriots and the Eagles too. But the Dolphins were the first team, and I really want to thank them.”
The former Louisville product officially finishes up his career with 369 catches for 5,266 yards and 27 touchdowns. Parker, 31, played nine seasons in the NFL spending his career exclusively in the AFC East while suiting up for the Dolphins and Patriots.
With Parker calling it quits, Parris Campbell will probably now get that WR3 role with Philadelphia. The Eagles also drafted Wilson and Ainias Smith in the later rounds of the draft. That’s, of course, without stating the obvious, as AJ Brown and Devonta Smith are the lead dogs in town. It would have been a struggle for Parker to even make this roster.
