Detroit Tigers Promote Jackson Jobe

The Detroit Tigers are promoting starting pitcher Jackson Jobe to the major league roster. The team announced the news on X.

According to Detroit Free Press reporter Evan Petzold, relief pitcher Shelby Miller has been designated for assignment to clear room for Jobe on the 40-man roster. Miller had a 4.53 ERA across 55.2 innings in 2024.

Jobe, 22, is one of the best prospects in baseball. The third overall pick in the 2021 draft is currently the No. 6 ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com. This makes him the top pitching prospect in baseball and the Tigers’ No. 2 prospect.

Jobe has a 2.36 ERA across 91.2 minor league innings in 2024. Most of that work came in Double-A where he had a 1.95 ERA in 73.2 innings. In Triple-A, he had a 6.00 ERA over nine innings.

The Tigers plan to Jobe as a reliever during the remainder of the regular season. This promotion will also allow the Tigers to use him in the Postseason if the team clinches a playoff spot.

The hope is that Jobe can be an electric arm out of the bullpen while the Tigers compete for a playoff spot. Detroit has been red hot since August. The team is 30-17 since Aug. 1. That late-season surge has allowed them to climb the American League standings. At the moment, the Tigers hold the final AL wildcard spot and hold a one-game advantage over the Minnesota Twins.

Detroit will close out the regular season with a pair of three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox.

Jobe will be making his major league debut in must-win games. If he performs, he may find himself pitching in October.
