Good luck trying to get excited for the Detroit Pistons heading into the 2019-2020 season. This Pistons team is totally screwed and strapped with bad contracts. The season is over before it ever begins. What a terrible feeling. Season is over with no hope or optimism looming. Let’s break down the misery that will face the Pistons this year.
Key Additions: Tony Snell, Sekou Doumbouya, Jordan Bone, Markieff Morris, Derrick Rose, Joe Johnson
The Pistons did stuff. How much of a difference will it make? That remains to be seen. Derrick Rose is supposed to be a spark plug off the bench. Will he actually stay healthy? Probably not. Joe Johnson is back in the NBA. There’s that. Does anyone know what Tony Snell actually does? The Pistons have another Morris twin. Different first name this time. Detroit took a lottery ticket on Sekou Deombouya. Time will tell if the Frenchman pans out.
Key Departures: Henry Ellenson, Ish Smith, ZaZa Pachulia, Wayne Ellington
Yeah, not much here. When you get the 8th seed, there’s not a ton to lose. Failed draft pick Henry Ellenson is finally gone. Fast guy Ish Smith is gone. That’s about it.
Starting Lineup: Reggie Jackson, Bruce Brown, Tony Snell, Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond
This starting lineup is ugly. The rest of the league has gone small. The Pistons have invested in two bigs. Neither of which actually win games. Andre Drummond can’t shoot free throws. Blake Griffin has one of the worst contracts in the sport. I’m sure I could write a book about how bad Reggie Jackson is. This team is screwed.
Is there anything to look forward to here? The Detroit Pistons haven’t drafted well. The organization made horrific trades. Is there anything positive here? Please, let me know.
