Deshaun Watson Is The Best Quarterback In Football With Protection

Before the season started, I tried to tell you that Deshaun Watson was unquestionably a tier one quarterback. Thus far to start the 2019-2020 NFL Season, Watson has proven every bit of that. However, I think there is an important trend that’s starting to happen with the former Clemson product. The Texans are actually starting to protect him! I know, shocking thought. We knew Deshaun Watson was awesome. What I bet you didn’t know is that Watson is the best quarterback in the NFL when he gets proper protection.

The Houston Texans beat the hell out of the Falcons 53-32. Dan Quinn is a total embarrassment but that’s a story for another day. We should be celebrating Deshaun Watson and how fantastic he is. Watson finished the game 28-33 for 426 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Texans signal caller also didn’t turn the ball over and finished the game with a perfect passer rating. The man is a magician. Over and over again, Watson was connecting with Will Fuller for a long touchdown. I’m going to show all 5 touchdowns for good measure.

Deshaun Watson was unstoppable. He’s on top of the world. He’s one of the best in the business. No question about it. Now we’re getting to see truly how good Watson is. The Texans did not allow a sack in this game. He was only hit one time during the entire game. The Laremy Tunsil trade is paying dividends already. Deshaun Watson became the first player in NFL history with more than 400 yards, five passing touchdowns, and fewer than six incompletions in a game. Deshaun Watson isn’t just good. He might be the best one in the league.

I think another thing that needs to be mentioned is Watson’s decision making. His press conferences are becoming electric. It’s very clear that he knows exactly what the opposing defense is going to do to him. Give Watson time to throw and he can pick a part the defense.

2017 NFL Scouting Combine: Quarterback Notes

If the Texans can keep the pass protection going, Watson has the ability to carry them to a championship. Houston is now 6-0 when Watson is sacked once or less in a game. This was only the 2nd time in his career he wasn’t sacked. The only other time he wasn’t sacked, Watson also threw 5 touchdowns that game too. The offensive line struggles of the past are well documented. So is Watson’s success when he doesn’t face pressure. The numbers do not lie. He’s the best quarterback in the NFL by a mile. If the Texans have fixed their offensive line, we’re looking at another powerhouse in the AFC.
