After superstar point guard Chris Paul was traded to the Golden State Warriors, concerns arose regarding his fit with the team. Now, former Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins sounds off on the trade. The 6-foot-10 big man doesn’t see Paul elevating the Warriors.
Cousins would go onto question the Warriors major offseason move on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t understand the Chris Paul trade,” Cousins said. “And then I looked at it as maybe this is just a contract thing. Maybe they want to free up the books for the next season. But as far as it being about basketball, the Xs and Os on the court, I don’t really see that elevating the Golden State Warriors, to be honest.
“He is up in age,” Cousins continued. “You got rid of a young, youthful guy for an aging veteran. And I’m not taking away anything that Chris Paul has done throughout his career. I’m just speaking on this stage of his career. I don’t see him elevating the Golden State Warriors.
“And hey, I could be wrong. He could go find the fountain of youth this summer and come out and win MVP; I don’t know, Sixth Man of the Year, who knows. But based on what I’ve seen in this stage of his career and the addition to the team, I just don’t see that really elevating the Golden State Warriors.”
Paul, 38, has bounced around teams all offseason. Before being dealt to the Warriors, the Washington Wizards made a splash for Paul in a blockbuster trade. Last season, the seasoned point guard averaged 14 points, four rebounds and nine assists per game on 44% from the field.
Will Paul improve the Warriors next season? Let us know in the comments down below.
