The Bengals have been making moves this offseason, extending Trey Hendrickson, Germaine Pratt and now Wilson.
Tee Higgins and Joe Burrow are next up for extensions, and Higgins isn’t bothered by not getting a deal done yet. In fact, he congratulated Wilson on his new deal on Friday.
Wilson was a third round draft selection for the Bengals in 2020. Through three seasons, he has logged 256 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks. He has quickly become one of the best players on Lou Anarumo’s defense.
Last year, Wilson had another solid year. In 15 games, he racked up 123 tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble as the Bengals repeated as AFC North division champs.
On July 14, Joe Mixon took a pay cut of $3 million to help the team extend their 2020 draft picks. Wilson’s $11.2 million base salary makes him the ninth-highest paid linebacker in the NFL, according to Over the Cap. Pratt’s $6.75 million base salary puts him at around the 15th-highest paid linebacker.
It’s clear that the Bengals front office and their players have a vision for the future, willing to sacrifice less money to get the coveted Lombardi trophy.
