Dear, Kyle Shanahan: Come Work With Me

This Trey Lance thing is a complete and utter dumpster fire. The craziest thing is, none of this is Kyle Shanahan’s fault. It’s not like Mac Jones is a world beater, but he would be a massive upgrade over Lance. The decision to move up for Lance legitimately may have cost San Francisco a Super Bowl.

Let’s just be honest; a breakup is coming. Shanahan has every right to feel bitter at management. He’s also getting blamed despite the fact that he’s made every quarterback that he’s ever had better. Matt Ryan was never better. He got Matt Schaub to be a legitimate NFL quarterback. He got RG3 who sucked to play well.

It’s painfully obvious that Lance can’t play. I just wrote this column, but he’s the NFL’s version of two years away from being two years away. This is something that’s going to cloud this regime forever. At some point, someone is going to take the bullet for this. If I’m Shanahan, I might want out anyway.

Let’s just make a pact now. Let’s work together. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses. You call the plays and coach the team. Let me worry about putting the team on the field. Whoever gets the first pick (hopefully the Raiders) let’s make a pact that we take that job on together.

Dear, Kyle. I just want you to know that I’m exactly who you need. Don’t worry, I’ll find you the next Deebo Samuel. He wouldn’t have been on your team had I been in the league anyway. I can maximize your team like Lynch never could. The days of you taking bums in the third round to find offensive chess pieces like Jalen Hurd, Tyrion Davis-Price, and Dante Pettis are over. We’re not wasting resources on your mistakes again. Just like I won’t step in and pretend that I can coach better than you.
