Deandre Ayton missed Wednesday’s game because of snow

If you were watching the Portland Trail Blazers host the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday evening, you may have been wondering where Deandre Ayton was. He wasn’t listed on any injury report, and all signs pointed to him playing. But for whatever reason, Ayton was nowhere to be seen.

That was until it became reported that Ayton wasn’t at the game because he was unable to leave his house on account of the roads being too icy. Yes, you heard that right. The $130 million man was unable to get from his home to the stadium last night.

The Trail Blazers attempted to combat this issue by sending staff members to his house to help clear the roads, but even they couldn’t help and were unable to even get to Ayton’s home.

I don’t know why, but it’s funny to imagine Blazer workers franticly scrambling to get to Deandre Ayton’s in the hopes of actually getting him to the stadium, only to quickly realize that it’s a lost cause and Ayton won’t be going anywhere.

What’s more funny to me is that a man who signed a $130 million contract would be this unprepared … or more so that the organization would allow him to be this unprepared. Ayton has spent most of his life in Arizona, and his childhood before that was in California and the Bahamas. He has really never been around snow in his life, so I understand him unprepared for the inconveniences snow can bring.

But you mean to tell me nobody in the Blazers organization thought to prepare for this? Snow isn’t unheard of in Portland, and icy conditions are even more common, so this definitely seems like a problem that could have easily been avoided.

Maybe this is just a low-key way for the Blazers to continue tanking without the league noticing. It wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for this team.

As the conditions in Portland continue to improve, the Blazers hope they will soon get Ayton back. In the meantime, though, maybe he can look at some cars with either all or four-wheel drive. Maybe also a snow plow or two while he’s at that.

Somebody on the team, just take this guy winter shopping, please!
