Passing on Sam Darnold was a Giant mistake. It’s really only a matter of time before the New York Giants start calling the Jets their daddy. The Giants decided it was a good idea to roll with Eli Manning as the starter this year. Besides the fact that Eli is more washed than a TV made by Circut City, the Giants also apparently had no idea how to construct the rest of their quarterback room. Cutting Davis Webb for a quarterback Youtuber (Alex Tanney)? Really?
Davis Webb made his thoughts known that he didn’t agree with the Giants decision to release him. Brian Costello of the New York Post had the latest:
“I didn’t need a reason,” Webb said. “They made a decision. I didn’t agree with it. I don’t think many people did, especially my teammates. I’ve moved on and I wish them nothing but the best.”
The Jets capitalized on the Giants mistake and one-upped them again by placing Webb on their practice squad. It’s a perfect fit for Webb. He gets to sit and develop and become a trade chip like Teddy Bridgewater was this year. Webb is very capable and a guy I really believe that could become a capable starter one day. The kings of New York are the Jets and Webb is happy to land with them.
“They showed a lot of interest and I felt wanted,” Webb said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “I’m excited to be here. There’s no doubt about that. I get to keep my house, too.”
Webb should win the backup job in 2019 following the inevitable retirement of Josh McCown. On the cross side of town, the Giants still have no succession plan for Eli Manning who hasn’t been a good quarterback in 5 years and turns 38 in January. Good luck Giants!
