David Hebner, Former WWE Referee, Passes Away
On June 18th, WWE announced that former referee, David Hebner, had passed away at the age of 73. David was a referee in the WWE and worked backstage as a road agent for over 20 years and was a part of some of the most memorable moments in professional wrestling history.
Hebner officiated Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III and Randy Savage vs Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V. He also officiated one of the best and historic moments in WWE history: Hulk Hogan versus Andre the Giant for the WWE Championship at The Main Event in 1988. Hogan was perplexed when he found there to be two David Hebner’s, one being David’s brother, Earl.
Hebner would transition to more of a backstage role towards the end of his tenure with WWE, serving as a road agent in the early 2000s. He had a positive impact on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting, working, and watching him.
Even as a referee, Hebner made some of the most memorable moments in professional wrestling history. He was on the same stage as some of the brightest stars ever in the business and he shined just as bright as them. He officiated some of the most historic matches in WWE history, but also had such a positive presence backstage. It seems like everyone who met him had a positive story to tell about their encounter.
David Hebner will be missed deeply by everyone he worked with, everyone who watched him, and everyone who had the immense pleasure of meeting him.
Vendetta Sports Media sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of David Hebner.
May he rest in peace.
