It’s the final 2020 NFL Draft Mailbag because it’s draft day! After months of hard work, the day is finally here. So much work and content has gone up towards the 2020 NFL Draft. If you have read the site trying to find draft coverage, thank you. One last mailbag to cap it off. Daubert’s 2020 NFL Draft Mailbag 10.
Short and sweet for the last one. Did Joe Burrow make the supporting cast or vice versa? I think it’s the latter. I MIGHT (unlikely) be wrong but there is that chance. What nobody can deny is that it wasn’t one of the outcomes. Either Justin Jefferson is overhyped or Joe Burrow is. Either Joe Brady isn’t that smart of Joe Burrow isn’t that good.
I think it’s the part where Burrow isn’t the good. His arm is just ok. Burrow’s best ability is his pocket presence where he’s able to step up and make a play. That stuff in great. This idea that a 5th year Senior that’s older than Josh Rosen suddenly went from a 6th round prospect to the first overall pick makes no sense.
I still think 2 years from now we’re going to sit back and say “wow, Joe Burrow really isn’t that much better than Andy Dalton”. Dalton got his team to the playoffs a bunch. How much better are you doing in Cincinnati? Especially for a team that is diametrically opposed to trades. This isn’t a well run organization. They’re not a talented team either. Good luck.
Joe Burrow will become the first pick in the draft but is the furthest thing from a slam dunk. His range of outcomes feels wide. I can see Tony Romo. I can also see Chad Pennington. I could also see Alex Smith where his team landing spot determined his success. We’ll see. All I know is that the Bengals should be terrified to draft Burrow.
