One thing you shouldn’t trust. NBA GMs. This isn’t the first time a GM has told a player that they wouldn’t get traded. DeMar DeRozan was also told he wouldn’t get traded, only to get traded for Kawhi soon after that. Now, Chris Paul becomes a victim of another lie told by an NBA GM. Daryl Morey told Christ Paul he wouldn’t get traded, according to Paul. full quote reported by Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated:
My initial reaction?” Paul said with a laugh. “I was shocked. Truth be told, I just talked to Daryl a couple days before the trade and he said he wasn’t going to trade me [to Oklahoma City]. That’s funny because that is going to be the alert that pops up on everybody’s phone because nobody knows that. But what the hell, I just said it.”
Morey declined comment on Paul, saying he was told he wouldn’t be traded to the Thunder, but sources close to the Rockets say Morey told Paul days before the trade there was a “slim chance” he could be dealt to the Thunder and that message may have been misinterpreted
“May have been misinterpreted,” okay so they lied. Daryl Morey lied to Chris Paul. I am more understanding of the Kawhi-DeMar DeRozan trade because well it’s Kawhi Leonard. But the Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook Trade? Eh. It reeks of desperation. Not only do I think this was just a bad trade and just a bit of head-scratcher. It just doesn’t make any sense, this duo of Russell Westbrook and James Harden won’t work. Daryl Morey is a liar and quite frankly an idiot for this trade. Russell Westbrook is more talented than Chris Paul, especially because of his inevitable decline. But Chris Paul was a better fit for the Rockets. Anyone that knows basketball knows that. You can’t just throw big names together and hope it works. There has to be some thought in this, but what do I know, I am not an NBA GM.
