D’Angelo Russell: What Should The Warriors Do With Him?

That has to be the biggest question for the Warriors right now. You would think that the Warriors have a big problem with how bad they are this year. But with the injuries and all the pieces they lost over the offseason, their demise isn’t that surprising. Luckily, with the Warriors having a bad year, they’ll get a sweet high pick and all of their players will come back from injury. This is essentially a one-year rebuild. Probably one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen from a team. This just leaves one question, what to do with D’Angelo Russell?

D’Angelo Russell Options

If you’re thinking, “well keep him, duh” hear me out. There are other options for D’Angelo Russell. Speaking hypothetically, let’s say they keep DLo. Their potential lineup is:

Steph Curry, D’Angelo Russell, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, (Potential 1st round pick?)

Yikes, that is a scary lineup right there. I could also see potential Rookie of the Yea, Eric Paschall, moving into the starting lineup and DLo to the bench to be the 6th man. That sounds like a great idea, but the Warriors are hurting for bench depth after they lost most of their bench over the offseason.

As I mentioned, Eric Pachall is a gem that the Warriors found. If they decided to trade D’Angelo Russell, they could really add some depth and be even scarier. I don’t have any teams of course because this is hypothetical. But teams looking for scoring, as the Orlando Magic are, would be an option to look at. I mean could you imagine if the Warriors somehow got Mo Bamba and Aaron Gordon for DLo? YIKES.

The fact of the matter is that DLo is a great trading piece. The Warriors already have a player that can flat-out score and is also a defensive liability. The Warriors do not need two of them. Trading D’Angelo Russell for a big man, preferably a Center, would work wonders for the Warriors. As I mentioned, they still have a first-round pick, who personally I think they’ll pick a Center.

Trade or keep D’Angelo Russell, the Warriors are in a rare win-win situation. No matter what they do, they cannot go wrong. I’ve always been a big guy for depth, that is essentially what wins you games in the playoffs, see San Antonio Spurs. I would trade DLo for more pieces but either way, the Warriors dynasty is nowhere near over yet.
