Former NFL QB Jay Cutler was arrested yesterday evening in Tennessee for DUI and gun charges. This happened after Cutler was involved in a small car collision in downtown Franklin, Tenn. Per CBS News, Cutler offered the other driver $2,000 not to report the accident to authorities.
According to a police report obtained by CBS, Cutler rear-ended another car and attempted to flee the scene before offering money to the other person. The police said that they smelled alcohol on Jay’s breath and that his eyes looked “dilated, glassy, and bloodshot.” Cutler denied consuming any alcohol, and authorities took him to a local hospital for a blood test. The police obtained a blood search warrant, the spokesperson said. To add to everything, officers found two guns in his car. One of which was a loaded pistol.
Cutler was then booked into Williamson County Jail and placed on a $5,000 bond. He was released from police custody later that night.
Jay Cutler impressed as a player at Vanderbilt, gaining recognition for his cannon arm. The Denver Broncos drafted him in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He then became a Chicago Bear, where he played most of his career. Cutler retired briefly after the 2016 season and planned to become a broadcaster with Fox. That is until, then Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill tore his ACL in training camp before the 2017 season. That pulled Cutler out of retirement, and he played one more year for the Dolphins before officially retiring after the 2017 season.
Things have not been great for Jay as of late. He and Kristen Cavallari got a divorce back in 2020, and now these DUI and gun charges. Cutler is finally living up to that “smoking Jay” persona—someone who seemingly just doesn’t care anymore.
