And they say you can never go home again. Well, Ezekiel Elliott is proving that theory wrong, as he and the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal, worth three million dollars with two of that guaranteed. Dallas is bringing Elliott back to the team that drafted him. The Cowboys selected fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. Elliott, who turns 29 in July, could be in competition for a starting spot, as the Cowboys did not address the position during the 2024 NFL Draft. Tom Pelissero first broke the news.
This should be viewed as a welcomed addition back to the Cowboys, as Elliott ran for over 8,000 yards during his seven seasons in Dallas, as well as 68 rushing touchdowns. The current Cowboys running back room consists of Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Royce Freeman. Not necessarily going to strike fear in the hearts of Defensive Coordinators. It will be interesting to see how Elliott fares with his old team, as it was apparent he was not the same back after he signed with New England last off-season.
It was kind of apparent this team did miss Ezekiel Elliott last season. Tony Pollard was supposed to take over the throne but disappointed in his first year as a starting Running Back. With Elliott back in the fold, it will be fun to watch this room compete for the starting spot in training camp. Does Elliott actually win his old job back and find some of his old form, or is the Zeke we once knew gone? I don’t know that I understand not grabbing a back in the draft, even after being high on Jonathon Brooks. Maybe Jerry Jones knows what he’s doing. The failure to address this position in the draft just might come back to bite them in the butt. Time will tell.
