Does Lamar Jackson want to play in New England? According to Meek Mill, that appears to be the case.
At the 2023 Owners Meetings in Phoenix, Patriots owner Robert Kraft told reporters that he knows Jackson wants to play for his team thanks to a text message he received from rapper Meek Mill.
“Meek Mill texted and said, ‘Lamar Jackson wants to come to the Patriots,’” Kraft revealed. “I said, ‘That’s Bill Belichick’s decision.” Full quote via masslive.com.
Kraft has a great relationship with Meek Mill dating back to 2018 when Kraft worked with Mill to get his release from prison. Their relationship is strong enough that Mill would put Kraft into the lyrics for one of his songs off an album he would release shortly after his release. “Maybe it’s the Michael Rubin’s or the Robert Kraft’s or the billionaire from Marcy, in a way they got my back.”
Could Lamar Jackson work in New England? Probably not. Then again, would Jackson work anywhere? New England doesn’t have a great offensive line. They have arguably a worse receiving core than Baltimore, which is saying something. I mean, who is even calling the plays? What would they do with Mac Jones? Even if New England brought Jackson in, they aren’t beating any of the other teams in the AFC East.
If Robert Kraft wants to go off the word of Meek Mill and bring in Lamar Jackson, be my guest. The price, at minimum, is two first-round picks thanks to the Ravens putting the non-exclusive tag on him. I don’t see any team getting significantly better by adding Jackson, but that just might have to be something they learn the hard way. It’s been a lot of fun watching the Patriots be bad, and adding Jackson wouldn’t change much.
