Things keep going from bad to worse for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. The players transferring out have been coming quickly, with the most recent being Dylan Edwards transferring out, but this one might hurt the worst. 247sports.com announced this morning that former five-star recruit Cormani McClain has announced his transfer to play for Billy Napier and the Florida Gators. McClain originally announced his intent to sign with Miami, but never fully committed as Colorado had announced the hire of Sanders as HC.
As a true freshman last season, Cormani McClain played in nine games with four of those games in the starting CB role. He did not make much of an impact on the stat sheet, as he totaled just 13 tackles and two pass breakups, but showed off that upside we saw coming out of Lakeland High School in Florida. The Gators have Jason Marshall and Devin Moore as their listed starters heading into this season, but with a good showing in practices, I would not be shocked if we saw McClain on the field early.
Cormani McClain is just the latest recruit to leave Deion Sanders, but this one might have the biggest impact long term. McClain was the number one Cornerback recruit coming out but did not get enough opportunity during his time in Boulder. If Billy Napier uses McClain correctly and gets him experience early on, we could be looking at one of the biggest transfers during this cycle. Don’t get me wrong, Travis Hunter will still be as impact a player as he was last season, but the duo of him and McClain would have been elite. Now, the depth behind Hunter is lacking and this might get exposed this season.
