Deion Sanders Officially Taking Job As HC At Colorado
For weeks now, we have heard rumors of Jackson State HC Deion Sanders becoming the new HC at the University of Colorado. We know he has been looking for his shot at a D-I school, and now he has it. News broke today that Sanders has officially taken the job at CU. News first broke by Brandon Marcello and 247 Sports.
Deion Sanders took the Jackson State job back in September of 2020, ushering in a new era not only for the school but HBCUs in general. The big thing Sanders wanted to do by taking this job was to bring attention and awareness to HBCUs across the country. It’s safe to say he has done that in spades. In the Fall of 2021, Sanders led the Jaguars to an 11-win season, which earned him SWAC Coach of the Year, a SWAC Championship, and earned a berth in the Celebration Bowl. His Jaguars would set an FCS record for average attendance with 42,000 per game.
The University of Colorado is hoping that Deion Sanders can bring the same recruitment and magic to their sidelines as he did at Jackson State. Sanders landed the number one recruit in the nation in Travis Hunter to Jackson State. Sanders is looking to hit the transfer portal hard, similar to the way Lincoln Riley did for USC. Could Colorado be in the running for Xavier Worthy? Under Sanders, anything is possible. I am sure that players will clamor at the idea of playing for Coach Sanders at CU. These are exciting times for CU, as their school has been in very rough shape for a very long time. Look for Sanders at the Buffaloes to make some noise this off-season.
