Jay Woodcroft is out, Kris Knoblauch is in. That’s not even the crazy part. Apparently, Connor McDavid had no idea it was coming. McDavid claims that he was totally surprised that Woodcroft got fired.
“First and foremost, obviously surprised,” McDavid told reporters, per TSN. “Didn’t see it coming. I loved playing for ‘Woody,’ I loved playing for ‘Mans.’ Two guys I think are unbelievable coaches and I really think they’ll be in the league very, very soon.”
He also followed up saying Woodcroft never lost the room.
“Not at all,” McDavid said. “He never lost the room, I didn’t think.”
He added: “Our play hasn’t been good enough. I’m first on the list there. Our play needs to be better, it’s the reason two good guys lost their job.”
Here is my question. How TF do you not consult McJesus on this move? Who the hell are you, Ken Holland? I mean seriously…
Even if you were going to fire him, how are you not giving that guy a heads up? How are you not even simply asking for his opinion on the subject even in an abstract way? That’s such bad leadership.
I know you think you’re brilliant because you signed Jack Campbell, but the idea that you’re not even going to give McJesus the heads up on this is crazy. You were gift wrapped McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and can’t get it done because the rest of the fringe pieces on the roster aren’t good enough. How about we fire Holland along with Woodcroft? Why should Holland keep his job after this nonsense.
For the record, McDavid wants you to know that he had nothing to do with Woodcroft getting fired.
“I woke up to a text, like probably a lot of you guys did as well,” McDavid said. “I know the narrative out there obviously, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth.”
