College Basketball Bets: Eric Dixon Is the Best Value Play for NPOY

As we enter the second half of the 2024-25 college basketball season, the frontrunners for National Player of the Year have emerged. Johni Broome is putting together a phenomenal campaign for an Auburn squad that looks like the best in the country. Marquette’s Kam Jones has elevated his game and become a bonafide offensive engine. Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is solidifying his case to go first overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. All fantastic candidates, but if you’re looking for a pure value bet, Villanova’s Eric Dixon is by far the best choice on the board.

Dixon has put Villanova Basketball on his back. He is Nova’s clear No. 1 option and is leading Division I in points per game as of this writing. The Wildcats are 8-5 and have a couple rough losses on the year, but are staying afloat almost entirely due to Dixon’s heroics. The 6-8 forward has been absolutely unstoppable. He has three 30-point games, including a 38-point explosion in a close loss to Maryland. He is shooting 55.3% from the field and 50% from three on high volume. Dixon should be among the favorites to win NPOY from an odds perspective, and somehow he’s nowhere close.

There’s a reason his odds are so long, specifically that the Wildcats are a pretty mid team this year. While much of his candidacy will likely depend on Villanova’s team success, getting the nation’s leading scorer and a probable First Team All-American at those odds is still insane value.
