Christian Pulisic Wishes Chelsea Gave Him More Of A Chance

Christian Pulisic threw a little shade at his former club Chelsea after moving to AC Milan on Wednesday. In an interview with ESPN’s Graham Hunter, Pulisic said that he thinks he could have contributed more at Chelsea if he was given the chance and wishes the club had trusted him more.

“Of course there are definitely times where I wish I could’ve gotten more of an opportunity and been that guy,” he said. “But yeah, for whatever reason, that’s not the case, and like I said, I’m just so excited for this new challenge and I’m definitely ready and up for it.”

Pulisic then went on to rave about his new manager Stefano Pioli and how his conversations with his new boss made him feel welcomed.

“I think he made me feel like he wanted me here, he wanted me to be a part of this team and he saw me fitting into this team, and that’s what I wanted to hear,” he said. “Obviously I want a fair opportunity like everyone else to have the chance to come here. I still need to earn my place, of course, but it felt like I was wanted here and I have a great opportunity, if I show good effort, good attitude every day and train well, that I’m going to get the opportunity to go out and perform.”

Pulisic’s time with Chelsea ended in fire, and you can sense his frustration with his former club and his relief to be moving to Milan in these comments.

While he struggled at the end with Chelsea, it was not entirely his fault. The Blues as a whole were an absolute dumpster fire last season. Anyone who argues otherwise is delusional.

The club didn’t just miss out on European competition, they finished in the bottom half of the Premier League; Crystal Palace, Fulham and Brentford all had better seasons than Chelsea.

Chelsea also had three managers last season, all of which preferred other players over Pulisic. Now, I am not saying Pulisic earned his right to be a constant starter last year, but not a single player on Chelsea’s team scored 10 goals last year. Besides Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz who scored nine goals, no other player managed to score at least five goals. No one was producing for the Blues last year.

I completely agree with Pulisic. He 100 percent should have been given more of a chance by Chelsea. Nothing was working for the Blues with the guys they were playing over him in attack. If he had been given more of an opportunity, he definitely could have been a key contributor.

However, Pulisic did not earn it either. While I think he should have been given more of a chance, the reality is, he did not take his opportunities when given them. He only scored one goal and provided two assists last year.

Those aren’t impressive numbers at all. When you are trying to earn more playing time, you have to produce when you are on the field. Pulisic did not do that. Yes, I still think he deserved more of a shot. However, he did not do himself any favors and as a result, was not able to regain his starting spot.

While his time with Chelsea did not go to plan, he now has a chance to redeem himself in Milan. Between the injuries, managerial changes and general frustration in England, it was clear he needed a change.

He is going to get a chance to shine in Milan. Pioli seems to like him and sees Christian Pulisic as his starting 10 next year.

He is going to get his shot. All he has to do is take his opportunity and show Chelsea what they have lost.
