Chris Bassitt Drops Some Truth Bombs About The Pitch Clock

I’ve written about the pitch clock plenty of times in the past. I have not been shy about my opinion. The pitch clock and banning of the shift should be viewed as a travesty for the sport of baseball. If you disagree, I hate you as a person. Just know that. Kind soul Chris Bassitt was generous enough to share his correct opinion on the new rules changes.

Quick side note: You guys do realize that these new rule changes aren’t going to bring new long term viewers to the sport, right? The entire point of Baseball is the sport is quite literally designed to be a marathon, not a sprint. They play ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-TWO GAMES! Not to mention the now expanded MLB postseason. You guys do get the pro argument to shorten the games defeats the entire reason why the sport is designed? When they say baseball is dying, that’s why.

The people making these decisions should be thrown in prison and I’m going to tell you why. The institution of the pitch clock is going to do two things:

A: Increase arm injuries.

B: Reduce Offense.

It is undeniable to any person with a logical brain that asking any human to throw a ball more than 100 MPH and then also say hey, you’re not doing it at a fast enough tempo, can’t deny you are exponentially increasing the risk of injury. It’s just a fact.

The pro pitch clock people should realize at that point their biggest argument for why the pitch clock should be instituted is that they believe their sport is already failing and the only solution is to hopefully increase the rate of human evolution within the sport of baseball. The strong will survive. Hey, look! This SEC pitcher throws 106 MPH and there is a clock. While you can understand their point, I would argue that same thought process is found within parts of history and I can tell you it usually doesn’t end well.

Too many things can go wrong in the sport of baseball. We’re talking about explosive movements in short periods of time. We’re already seeing so many guys on the IL list as it is. We sure we want do to this? Tyler Glasnow blew out his arm simply because Rob Manfred decided to change the rules of the baseball mid-way through the season. Nobody else sees how insane this is?

Rob Manfred should be exiled and sent away forever. The fact that the owners haven’t fired him already says everything you need to know. Good times create weak people. Weak people create bad times. Baseball used to be America’s Past Time. Weak people like Rob Manfred are ruining their sport and the owners don’t care because their daddy did all the hard work to build this product. It’s sad and someone with more power in this world than I do needs to do something about it or they will kill this sport.

Chris Bassitt is going to tell you another reason why the pitch clock blows. Do you think Nomar Garciaparra ripped his batting gloves off after each pitch simply because it was a pattern? No… that buys you time as a hitter. Hitting a baseball with the stuff that’s in the game right now feels impossible. It’s probably the single hardest element of any sport. They need more time to think, not less…

Advantage Pitchers. It’s coming.

VIA NY POST:

“It won’t even be close, the hitters will be most affected,” Bassitt said before the Mets faced the Marlins. “The speed of the game has nothing to do with pitching, it’s all the hitters. Get in the box, stepping out, not stepping out, the hitters are slowing the game, but the pitching is so hard they need time.

“Pitching is better than it’s ever been, the hitters need time. For them not to have time and then you say you want offense, I don’t know. You want offense, but now you are trying to speed them up? Good luck.”

“There are flaws in the rules and the players on both sides, the hitters and pitchers, will exploit the flaws and I think it’s going to be exploited pretty quickly,” Bassitt said.

“The adjustment is going to be, get rid of it,” Bassitt said. “But I don’t know how once you implement it you can get rid of it. But we’ll see. You can’t make predictions until it’s actually in place. It might help everyone, they might really like it, everyone might really hate it, but we’ll find out.”

By the way, he’s right. Chris Bassitt knows how to pitch. He’s one of the smartest guys in the game and it’s not hard to see why after seeing the way he speaks. SNY did a nice little segment on Bassitt last night. The dude is getting paid this offseason and is mastering the game at an older age.

It’s not just going to be an adjustment. It’s going to be a zoo. The first time somebody runs up a pitcher for a ball or the hitter for a strike, there will be a riot and the umps are probably going to do it because they know there is no point of them if the robot system goes into full effect. Welcome to the circus of MLB. It’s becoming more and more of a joke by the day.
