Chelsea have opened talks with Neymar

The 2023 summer transfer window has not even opened yet and it is already madness. Another player that could be on the move is Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, with Chelsea has reportedly opened the discussion with the Brazilian, according to Sky Sports.

This would be another massive move made by Chelsea since Todd Boehly became the owner of the London club last June.

Since Boehly’s takeover, Chelsea has spent a whopping £585.5 million ($744.8M). Despite this, Chelsea still had a very disappointing 2022-23 Premier League season that saw them finish 12th, their first finish outside of the top 10 since the 1995-96 season.

A player like Neymar may bring the magic back to Stamford Bridge, along with the recent hiring of Mauricio Pochettino as manager.

Bringing in an attacking threat is important for Chelsea with a load of attacking options set to depart the club this summer.  Attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has been linked with a move away from Chelsea, winger Christian Pulisic has been linked to a move to AC Milan, and midfielder N’Golo Kanté has signed a deal with Saudi side Al-Ittihad. Premier League rivals Manchester United are also hoping to take some talent from Chelsea in the form of Mason Mount.

As far as Neymar is concerned, he had a strong start to the season for PSG but missed the club’s last 14 Ligue 1 matches due to ankle surgery. In 29 matches, Brazil’s joint all-time leading scorer had 18 goals and 17 assists, good enough to finish third and second, respectively, on the team.

After Neymar’s friend and teammate Lionel Messi announced he is leaving France and signing with Inter Miami, the end of PSG’s insane front three will be over. Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé looked to be one of the best-attacking trios ever, but fell below expectations amidst internal issues.

A move away from PSG will bring an end to a six-year tenure for Neymar. Before joining PSG, he spent four seasons playing for Barcelona, where he was a key part of their treble-winning team in the 2014-15 season.
