Chelsea agree to sign Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven
Chelsea and PSV Eindhoven have agreed to a £29 million ($35.88 million) deal for the services of winger Noni Madueke, according to a Sky Sports report.
The 20-year-old Madueke spent time playing in both Crystal Palace and Tottenham’s academies before moving to PSV in 2018.
Madueke has had success in the Netherlands having scored nine goals in each of his first two full seasons for PSV. In the 2021 Johan Cruyff Shield, he scored a brace against Ajax to help PSV win 4-0. Through nine matches this season, Madueke has scored twice.
Madueke has some international experience for England. He has played in 24 matches for youth England national teams while scoring six goals.
The move back to England may help him with the national team. Of the 25 players who went to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, only Jude Bellingham plays his club football outside of the country.
This sale from PSV is somewhat surprising since they already sold their leading scorer Cody Gakpo to Liverpool. PSV sold Gakpo early in the January transfer window after he starred at the 2022 World Cup and scored 13 goals in 24 matches for his club.
The signing of Madueke will be the sixth for Chelsea this month. He joins Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and João Félix. All of these players have cost Chelsea and owner Todd Boehly £190 million.
There is a clear eye on the future of the club because all six of those players are 23 years old or younger.
While the future is looking bright for Chelsea, this season is one to forget thus far. “The Blues” currently sit 10th in the Premier League table and play Liverpool who sits in ninth place on Saturday.
