The 2023 NBA draft is just under a month away, and things are starting to heat up. One team in question is the Charlotte Hornets, who find themselves in quite the pickle with the No. 2 overall pick this year. They’re unable to draft the sensation in Victor Wembanyama, but can snag the next two best guys in Brandon Miller and Scoot Henderson. But who will they select? Will they pass on Scoot, who’s the consensus best prospect after Wembanyama, and take Miller? Or will they go chalk?

Right now, the Hornets hold a lot of power in this year’s draft. Teams will be calling all over to grab Scoot Henderson, even though his shooting has been in question. Henderson is still the second-best player in this draft, but the Hornets might not have to pass on him, and here’s why.

Why the Hornets should select Henderson

There are two reasons why the Hornets should select Henderson. One, their franchise point guard in Lamelo Ball has questioned his future with the team in the past. So, maybe it’s time for a new face of the franchise. Send Ball off to another team in exchange for draft capital or another player to pair with Scoot. Second, the Hornets should select Henderson if there are no amazing offers sent to them for the No. 2 overall pick.

Why the Hornets shouldn’t select Henderson

If Lamelo Ball receives an extension and stays with Charlotte, boom, pass on Henderson and take Brandon Miller with the second pick. Getting a sharpshooter to pair with a pass-first point guard in Lamelo Ball is perfect. That duo would instantly free up Ball’s shooting and have Miller instantly make a huge impact. Passing on Scoot for Miller would also allow the Hornets as a whole to develop faster and better with Miller.
