As NBA fans anxiously await the NBA season. Players are signing new contracts left and right. Carmelo Anthony has decided to sign a new contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Loyalty to Portland was a big factor in the decision, as well as Portland in looking to contend for a championship. This was first reported by Shams Charania.

Last year, for the Portland Trail Blazers the 36-year-old small forward, averaged 15.4 points, on 46% shooting, and 38% from three. But, most of all he proved after being after being out of the league for over a year, that the mid-range game is still valuable in the NBA. He and Lillard had created a bond that had seemed to be impeccable and he seemed to be having fun in Portland while having the chance to resurrect his career.

After the resurrection of his career, he was being targeted by multiple teams. Including Portland, New York, LA Lakers, and the Phoenix Suns.

Portland could be the last place we see Carmelo Anthony play in his legendary career.

Carmelo Anthony’s legendary career

He has said he wnats to end it in Portland. But, Melo has been in the league for 17 years, lets take a look back:

He was drafted at the ripe age of 19, taken right out of high school. He was drafted third overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 draft. Only behind Lebron James (Cleveland) and Darko Milicic (Detroit).

In his career, he has played for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and the Portland Trail Blazers. In his seventeen years in the league, he has been named to the 2003-04 NBA ALL-ROOKIE FIRST TEAM, he’s a SIX TIME ALL-NBA PLAYER, 10 TIME ALL-STAR, and he was the 2012-13 Scoring Champion.

Carmelo Anthony has proven to be a great player for any team, he may not be the best three-point shooter. But, he can help in the mid-range which is one area a lot of teams need help. Those are the services that Portland will be re-acquiring. Both sides saw interest in a return and it will happen.

“Whenever you find a situation that’s comfortable and allows you to be who you are, you want in that situation,” Anthony said then. “There’s no need to try different things when something is working.”

This will be a One-year, minimum deal.
