Carlo Ancelotti Returns to Real Madrid as New Manager

Carlo Ancelotti, manager at Everton since 2019, announced that he will be returning to the Santiago Bernabeu to manage Real Madrid once again. The announcement comes on the heels of Zinedine Zidane’s resignation at Real just five days ago.

Ancelotti managed Read Madrid from 2013-2015 and won four trophies, including a Champions League victory against city rivals Athletico, a Copa del Rey title, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup title, but his failure to secure Real Madrid a top-two finish in La Liga and their Round of 16 exit in the Copa del Rey were the reasons for his firing in 2015.

The 61-year-old has since managed Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Everton, the last of which he is abruptly leaving despite his existing four-year contract, in order to rejoin Real Madrid owner Florentino Pérez. Despite multiple reports of Ancelotti’s pension for losing his locker rooms, he seems excited to be back in Madrid.

VIA Fabrizio Romano’s Twitter:

“While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time. I’m joining Real Madrid”.

Ancelotti brings loads of accolades and expertise to the Bernabeu, and Perez is hoping that the Italian will have more success in his second stint with the club. Otherwise, Real’s cycle of new managers will once again hinder Ancelotti’s progress.
