Can Kevin Huerter Have a Career Resurgence in Chicago?
It’s been a wild NBA trade deadline, with several big names and key pieces getting moved. The Chicago Bulls recently acquired Kevin Huerter from the Sacramento Kings in the three-team De’Aaron Fox trade. While the Bulls received a C- trade grade from Matt Hanifan, in part due to the organization’s failure to acquire draft capital, Huerter is an interesting buy-low asset who could be valuable for the Bulls moving forward. Can he have a career resurgence in Chicago?
Change of Scenery Could Be Good for Kevin Huerter
This season, Huerter has registered his worst on-off splits and is shooting a career-worst 30.2% from three. As a result, he fell down Sacramento’s rotation and was seeing his fewest minutes per game since he entered the league in 2018. Despite having a good stint in Sacramento overall, this year hurt his value.
However, the Maryland product is a career 37% three-point marksman who appears due for positive regression. In Chicago, he’ll get to play alongside playmakers like Josh Giddey, Coby White, and Lonzo Ball. Huerter himself is an underrated secondary/tertiary playmaker. If the shotmaking gets back to normal, he’s entering a situation where he could be a seamless fit in the offense.
Ultimately, the change of scenery presents an excellent opportunity for Kevin Huerter to return to the play that earned him his four-year, $65 million rookie extension from Atlanta. In a new city, in a contract year, look for Huerter to reestablish himself as one of the better three-point shooters in the NBA.
