Can Joel Hofer Steal Jordan Binnington’s Job?

We just had our site fantasy hockey league the other day. I missed out on most of my sleeper goalie targets but was able to snag the Blues goalie tandem after the draft. This may surprise people but are we positive that Jordan Binnington will finish the season as the top goalie for the Blues? Are we sure Joel Hofer won’t steal his job?

Hofer, 22, was really impressive a season ago. Albeit in a really short sample Hofer posted 1.32 GAA and a .959 save percentage in three starts. He also posted a .920 save percentage in the AHL a season ago. The plan is for Hofer to be the backup heading into the start of the 2023-24 NHL Season. Who’s to say that Hofer can’t steal the job later this year? Hofer is also 6-foot-5 and takes up a ton of space in the crease.

Binnington, 30, has also been on a serious downward spiral since winning the Stanley Cup in 2019. Binnington’s SV% mark has gone down in five consecutive years. A season ago, Binnington posted a .894%. You’re not winning games with that as your goalie.

Jordan Binnington: Ready To Prove The Haters Wrong?

The St. Louis Blues missed the playoffs a season ago but will be looking to rebound. They still have a pretty nice core there with ascending young forwards to build around. If Hofer can establish himself as a stud young goalie, St. Louis has a chance to be better than you think this year.
