Can The Hornets Please Buyout Gordon Hayward?

I watched bits and pieces of the Celtics preseason game against the Hornets yesterday. I’m so excited for the Celtics this year and they kicked the living snot out of Charlotte from start to finish. With that said, my sick and twisted brain just kept having the same thought over and over again. Can the Hornets please just buyout Gordon Hayward already?

Let me provide some proper context now. The NBA basically banned buyouts midseason. You can’t ring chase anymore. I have a post explaining why the rule sucks.

A basic example of this is Kevin Love wouldn’t have been able to sign with the Heat if the rules were in place last year. A stupid rule that makes no sense and is only in place because people cried about the Warriors.

Now, back to the real topic at hand. Hayward, 33, is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $31.5 million this year. Can we just be honest about this; he’s never getting that type of contract again. Especially with the new rules. It’s not like Hayward has to maintain his bird rights for the next deal. It’s over for him. The best he’s doing on the open market is taking someone’s mid-level. A buyout will not change that fact.

The Hornets suck. Hayward is wasting his time there. Plus, the Hornets are probably better served letting him walk so they can lose more games. It’s not like the Hornets can trade the guy for future assets. How are you possibly matching that contract in a trade? They’re stuck with him until the deal runs out or a buyout happens.

Let’s just make this happen and be done with it, okay? It’s time for Hayward to return to the Celtics on a minimum contract. He’s the perfect bench player for this team and would be the more reliable version of Sam Hauser off the bench with more playmaking.

It would just feel so right. Brad Stevens needs to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy with Hayward on the team. It’s what the signs would have wanted so the duo from Butler gets their championship.

This buyout needs to happen prior to the season or Hayward can’t sign with the Celtics. Can someone do something about this already? It’s time to start leaking stuff so that we can get this ball rolling.
