Can Darren Till Make The Ascent Into The Upper Ranks At Middleweight?

Is This Finally The Time For Darren Till?

Since making his debut in the UFC in 2015, Darren Till has found a way to put himself on fight fans’ radars, whether it be his unorthodox fighting style or his abilities on the mic. During a 3 year stretch, Till had rattled off 5 out of 6, including wins over Donald Cerrone and a hellacious 5 round main event against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. But after dropping 3 out of his last 4, some are off on “The Gorilla”. Till has taken more than a full year off since his last loss to Robert Whittaker, and I believe that this time off will do him favors in his upcoming fight against Derek Brunson this Saturday.

What Does He Have Going For Him?

What plays into Darren Till’s favor are a few things. One is his age; at only 28 years old and being a professional for 8 years, he has both the experience needed to turn the ship around and the youthfulness to continue to grow and blossom into the superstar he is bound to become. Next is his natural striking ability. You saw it in the fight against Cerrone and his absolute war against Kelvin Gastelum that he can throw combinations from out of nowhere and be super creative with his punches and kicks. One other thing I believe he has going for him? He’s from England. These guys coming over are causing a British Invasion and I am here for it. Guys like Paddy Pimblett and Ian Garry from Ireland, to paraphrase another Irish fighter, are not here to take part, they are here to take over. These guys are tough, they know how to sell and are bound for greatness.

As it stands in the UFC Middleweight Rankings, Darren Till currently sits 7th in the ranks. His matchup with 5th ranked Derek Brunson can play a massive part in Till jumping into the upper echelon of the 185lb division. I believe he will get it done this Saturday, and we can expect to see Till say something after the fight already asking for someone bigger because that’s just how “The Gorilla” operates. This entire card this weekend is stacked with talent, and I know for a fact I will be tuning in.
