The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a four-year deal with wide receiver Calvin Ridley, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal is worth a maximum of $92 million with $50 million in guaranteed money.
In 2023, Ridley returned after being suspended for a year for violating the NFL gambling policy. In his return, he posted 76 receptions, for 1016 yards, and eight touchdowns. Despite spending significant draft capital to land Ridley, the Jaguars will only get one year season of play production out of the Alabama product.
Ridley, 29, will spend the next four years of his career with the Titans. The addition of Ridley should help boost the Titans’ receiving core. The group now consists of Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, and Treylon Burks. The goal will likely be for Ridley to be the team’s top option. Hopkins has faced some regression and is 31-years-old while Burks has faced some struggles.
The addition of Ridley continues the Titans’ trend of adding playmakers in free agency. Tennessee also signed running back Tony Polland to a three-year deal.
Ultimately, the Titans’ work to get increased productivity from its skilled players will depend on the quarterback position. The Titans will need sophomore quarterback Will Levis to take a step in the right direction in the upcoming season.
The Titans also hold the No. 7 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That selection can be used to help infuse more talent into the offense. Based on the Titans’ free-agent additions, offensive line or tight end could be the positions of interest.
As for the Jaguars, the loss of Ridley leaves the team without an elite receiver. The team currently has Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Gabriel Davis. Ideally, they provide quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a high-level pass catcher before this offseason.
