The draft and waiver wire are key to winning your fantasy football 2023 championships. But the ability to buy low sell high is also a surefire way to take advantage of player’s highs and lows.
Buy Low
The Bears suck. Nothing new there. However, wide receivers can always find opportunities to flourish and this could be it. Now before getting into it, buy DJ Moore LOW. Don’t send any starters in a deal for him. Now, Justin Fields has the ability to put up numbers and DJ Moore is a legit NFL talent. The RPO offense they run works well for top receiving in NFL offenses as the quarterback doesn’t have time in the pocket to progress past his first read.
How the game went against Green Bay will definitely make you second-guess trading for him, I agree. But the value of Moore couldn’t be lower as most owners are kicking themselves right now for even drafting the young receiver in the first place. DJ Moore will bounce back, I can’t say how much, but there is a high ceiling here that you can get for cheap.
This is a buy-low that you may not be able to get for the true low. Christian Watson owners may be hesitant to sell Watson knowing that Jordan Love can ball out. However, the value you can get for him now doesn’t match his potential. Watson has top-10 potential with big play ability every time he touches the ball.
In his rookie season, Watson tallied an absurd 18 percent touchdown rate whenever he touched the ball. That plus Matt LaFleur scheming up ways to get Watson the ball with screens and quick slants, Watson has the ability to turn teams around.
Honorable Mention: Rachaad White
Before we get to the sell-high guys, I wanted to mention Rachaad White as a buy-low candidate but with a caveat. I think White is in an ideal situation where he is the feature back, and that showed against Minnesota.
The second-year running back dominated the snap count out of the backfield, missing just 14 snaps of the offense. White also took 17 of the 24 carries in the offense. The caveat of buying low on Rachaad White is that I don’t think he’s very good. All those opportunities he had were taken for just 49 total yards.
Plus, the Bucs offense won’t be in many scoring positions throughout the year, so I can’t justify buying White for a player with a strong ceiling. Consider buying Rachaad White with tempered expectations.
Sell High
To sell high on someone, you have to take advantage of the hype around them. A first-round rookie wide receiver starting off hot is exactly that. I think Zay Flowers is a talented receiver who will have a successful career. Moreover, he looked great against Houston, taking nine receptions for 78 yards on 10 targets.
However, you have to consider that Mark Andrews missed this week and will see a significant amount of the team’s target share once he comes back. Taking that into account along with new offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s lackluster track record, Zay Flowers is someone you should capitalize on now before the value goes down.
Tyjae Spears is here and isn’t going anywhere. The rookie back out of Tulane out-snapped Derrick Henry 34 to 30 snaps. Spears dominated the third down and passing situations along with eating a lot into the early-down snaps too.
Henry still put up a solid game with a few big runs and a touchdown, but it looks like he won’t be getting 25-plus touches a game that we have seen in years past. The name value alone can fetch you a solid return. Sell Henry now while you can.
Trading this year in fantasy football 2023 can make or break your season. Suppose you can take advantage of when to buy low or sell high on a player. In that case, you’ll be giving yourself a significantly better advantage as the season progresses, ideally to a fantasy football championship.
