It sure sounds like the Milwaukee Bucks are totally running it back after their first round playoff exit to Miami this past season. Khris Middleton is staying. Ditto for Brook Lopez. After a career year in Milwaukee where he almost won the Defensive Player of the Year Award, Lopez has inked a new deal in Milwaukee. The veteran big man will sign a two-year deal worth $48 million.
Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news.
“Free agent center Brook Lopez is returning to the Milwaukee Bucks after agreeing to a two-year, $48 million deal, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.”
Lopez, 35, averaged 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds during the 2022-23 season for the Bucks. He’s also become an improved shooter over the years as well posting really solid totals offensively. The former Stanford product shot 53.1% from the field and 37.4% from 3. That’s while also posting 2.5 blocks per game. There is a reason why the Bucks feared losing a player like this.
There is no question that Lopez earned a raise from his prior deal. Previously, Lopez had signed a four-year deal worth $52 million in a deal that expired this past year.
We’re also talking about a guy that’s been really durable. Despite the advanced age, Lopez logged 78 games (second on the team) across 30.4 minutes per game.
After Middleton returned, it should have been no surprise to see Lopez back in the fold. Are we getting last dance vibes with the Bucks this year?
