Brock Purdy Almost Signed With The Vikings?

ESPN ran a story recently regarding the fate of Kirk Cousins. Feel free to read it if you want to. It’s actually not behind a paywall so feel free to dive in. However, I want to focus on one particular part that needs to be addressed. Did Brock Purdy almost end up on the Vikings?

It appears the answer is yes.

“In 2022, the Vikings extended Cousins’ contract and, according to multiple sources, heavily pursued a rookie quarterback from Iowa State named Brock Purdy in the final hours of the draft, hoping to sign him to a UDFA deal. Purdy told ESPN last week he was considering the 49ers, Houston Texans and Vikings if he had gone undrafted. The 49ers, however, swooped in and made Purdy the final selection of the seventh round. When the 49ers lost Garoppolo and fellow quarterback Trey Lance to injury during the season, Purdy stepped in and won the job.”

Everyone with a brain knows Purdy got really lucky here. San Francisco was his best landing spot. He wouldn’t have played a snap in Minnesota. He may have eventually taken the field in Houston but that team is so bad that it’s hard to imagine he would have had much success.

Brock Purdy Is Never Winning The MVP Award

Before I close here, does anyone else laugh at the obvious here? These stories are always so insane because nobody would know who Purdy was if Kyle Shanahan wasn’t his coach. It’s just a fact. If Purdy signed with Minnesota, you wouldn’t know who he was. He also would never be considered a real successor for Cousins who never misses games. End of story.
