Brock Bowers Is A First Rounder. Book It.

I will always be at war with the NFL Draft community. It’s just the way it has to be. Right now you’re being sold a fake bill of goods. I hate to break this to people but Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer isn’t that good. There is only one tight end that matters right now in college football and his name is Brock Bowers. He’s a first rounder and you can take that to the bank right now.

I’m not sure Bowers could have done better as a freshman. The Georgia tight end made first team All-SEC and was named freshman of the year in the SEC. Pretty high praise. He’s going to win all of the awards at the tight end position. We don’t have to spend too much time there.

Let’s also talk about the fact that Bowers is coming off a year where he notched 56 receptions for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. I gotta be honest; I physically can’t remember a tight end even putting up those kind of numbers let alone a true freshman.

Keep in mind, that’s with Stetson Bennett throwing him the ball. Bennett won’t get drafted. Keep in mind that’s while also playing for Georgia. They constantly have the lead in every game and it’s hard enough just to crack their team. Travon Walker was the first pick in the draft and he didn’t even start this year. Dalvin Cook’s brother was a third stringer. Use your context clues…

Bowers is a nightmare to deal with. 6-foot-4, 230, and can really run. High points everything. When that 40 inch vertical number comes in at the combine in two years don’t be surprised. It’s legit 4.5 speed which is very high end for the position. The pass catching is ahead of the blocking but I can promise you he’s not a civ in the run game. He can more than do his job in that department.

Good luck finding guys that can cover him. I don’t know how NFL teams will do it. I truly don’t. I think we’re talking top 5 NFL tight end right out of the gates as a rookie. That doesn’t happen either. It takes these guys a long time to develop. Bowers is as polished of a pass catcher as it gets. He gets it. Is always open. Also has a serious knack for creating YAC.

The short area movement skills pop off the screen. He’s way better than say a Mike Gesicki who comes with a similar skillset. Tall and can really jump. Bowers is a real route runner. Just has an extra gear in the lower half beyond just high pointing. Really gets open. Way tougher to tackle than Gesicki too.

To the surprise of no one, Georgia has the best tight end room in the country. Add Darnell Washington and incoming transfer Arik Gilbert to the list. Both can make the league. It won’t matter. Bowers will outshine both of them.

Maybe it’s not even a hot take but if you want to put your attention towards a tight end, Brock Bowers is the only one that truly matters. He will be a game breaker at the NFL level. You can book it. Get to know the name before it’s too late. It may already be too late.
