Brian Robinson might be one of the more interesting curious players heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. While productive for Alabama, it’s hard to know what to do with him. In a loaded running back draft, what should we do with Robinson? Let’s go over his 2022 NFL Draft profile!
I’m not sure how to quantify this but it has to be said. Out of all of the running backs to leave Alabama for the NFL, Robinson feels like he’s on the lower end of the talent spectrum. Robinson didn’t win the Heisman or break some sort of SEC rushing record. He sat back and waited his turn. Albeit, when it was Robinson’s turn, the guy performed and performed in a way that feels translatable to the NFL.
When I say translatable, he doesn’t look like fat Eddie Lacy that brings nothing to the passing game. Robinson is a tough runner who can break tackles. There is *some* Javonte Williams in his game. Robinson rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns for Bama this past season.
Robinson is a big dude at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds. You can talk yourself into him being tougher Matt Forte. Robinson has some receiving ability after reeling in 35 catches this past year. The Crimson Tide also used him as a returner at times so maybe Robinson is a bit more athletic than I give him credit for.
That being said, it’s hard to know how much juice Robinson has. He feels very Kenyan Drake to me. If you want to say Robinson has more to him, be my guest. It’s just hard to talk me into Robinson being some star back like Najee Harris. I don’t think anyone expects that from Robinson either.
The good news is he doesn’t have a ton of tread on the tires. It’s not like Bama rode this guy into the ground. He does have some workhorse traits and really looks like a train at his best. Just doesn’t have a ton of gears to him when I watch Robinson play. He’s not making those home run cuts or making a guy miss because he has that top end twitch. 4.53 speed is fine and will get the job done. It just isn’t… you know.
I think Robinson has a chance to be a good back. Certainly more bullish on him than coming into last year. Robinson is on my top running back list but he doesn’t stand out above the top end guys.
