Brenton Cox: Declares For 2023 NFL Draft After Florida Dismissal
I don’t know exactly what to call this one. A mutual parting of the ways? A pure dismissal? A financial decision? Either way, Billy Napier said thanks but no thanks to Brenton Cox and dismissed him from the Florida football program. Hashtag – Not Great.
Apparently, it’s being called a cumulative decision. That would indicate Cox has been a bad egg in the building on more than one occasion. You hate to go speculative mode but it should probably be noted given the fact that Cox after transferring out of Georgia failing to fit in there.
Cox has already put a statement out on the matter making the best of a hairy situation declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft:
“I would also like to express my gratitude to the Florida Gators football program, fans and my teammates,” Cox wrote in a note posted to social media. “This football program has helped me to be a productive and positive student athlete on and off the field and I will be forever grateful for that. Being a part of this program and having the ability to wear No. 1 jersey was an honor and privilege.
“I find it hard to express my disappointment in being dismissed from the team. It is truly a shock. I have always had a competitive spirit. I think that sometimes gets misconstrued. SEC football is a serious endeavor. There is a lot at stake for everyone involved.
“As I leave the program, I want the Gator faithful to know my goal every Saturday was to contribute to a winning effort and that mindset has always been focused on making my team and teammates better.”
The last time a notable Florida defender got dismissed, you can track back to Janoris Jenkins who made a pretty good career in the NFL. Actually think this may be a similar instance. Cox is tough and can really attack the quarterback when dialed in. We just never see him dominate over consistent stretches. I have him as a 3rd / 4th round pick for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.
