Breece Hall is viewed by many as RB1 heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. You can certainly make that case and I probably won’t argue it even though I have him two spots lower on my list. Let’s check out the 2022 NFL Draft Profile on the Iowa State running back.
I just see a lot of flashes of Matt Forte here. Really tall upright runner but agile enough to bend when needed. An easy 5-foot-11. Two inches shorter than Isaiah Spiller but more upright. Way more lower body explosion.
Hall’s combine explosion numbers were really good. A 4.39 is disgusting for his size. This is not a small back. He weighed in at 217. A 40 inch vert for a running back is dangerous. Also has NFL bloodlines. His cousin is Roger Craig.
My problem with Hall is the fact that he’s not really sudden and not really shifty. His footwork is off balance when chain movement. Slow to react and often doesn’t finish runs. Looks fatigued at times and carried a big workload at Iowa State. The short area quickness is not to the level to be desired. Big question mark in the passing game too.
That being said, Hall sneaks up on you. He’s capable of being a three down back. Can hit the home run ball. Has five career touchdowns of 75 yards or more. He just has another gear once he hits the next level of the defense. Also on the younger side turning 21 in May so the workload thing is probably overstated. His offensive line sure as hell didn’t do him any favors so you feel like there is even more there in the tank.
I like Hall but I don’t think he’s a super safe prospect. A top 40 pick on Hall might be too rich for my taste even though he will more than likely turn into a solid back for any team that drafts him.
