Hurricanes forwards Max Pacioretty has suffered a torn Achilles according to Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes. Pacioretty tore his Achilles after just two weeks in returning to action on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild. The Hurricanes will place him on IR.
Pacioretty, 34, scored three goals in five games with Carolina this season, making his Hurricanes debut on Jan. 5 against Nashville. The 6’2″, 214-pound forward was acquired by the Hurricanes along with defenseman Dylan Coghlan from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for future considerations on July 13, 2022. Pacioretty has recorded 645 points (326g, 319a) in 855 career NHL games with Montreal, Vegas and Carolina. The New Canaan, Conn., native has represented the United States at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, 2014 Olympics and 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Pacioretty was selected by Montreal in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft. Via Hurricanes Press Release.
Playing in just his fifth game of the season after suffering an Achilles tendon tear over the summer, the 34-year-old winger needed to be helped off the ice after suffering a non-contact injury with just 19 seconds to go in Thursday’s 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Via Hurricanes Press Release.
Even with the Hurricanes winning five straight in an excellent season, they and hockey fans all around the world have suffered a major wound. Canadians, Hurricanes, Golden Knight fans, and every NHL fan were saddened to see the veteran forward be helped off the ice with minimal time left in the game.
Pacioretty was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Dylan Coghlan for a future consideration back in July for merely a salary dump for Las Vegas.
