Brayden McNabb Extended, What’s Next For The Golden Knights?

The Vegas Golden Knights continue to lock up their talented blue line. Their entire defense core is essentially locked up well beyond next season. Shea Theodore extended a few weeks ago. Now his D partner Brayden McNabb re-upped with the Golden Knights keeping him in Vegas for another three seasons after this one.

McNabb, 33, has been with the team since its inception. McNabb is one of the original misfits still on the roster. The new contract being signed is a three year deal that will carry an AAV of $3.65 million.

The team was the first to announce the full details of the news:

VEGAS (November 15, 2024) – Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, November 15, that the team has signed defenseman Brayden McNabb to a three-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season worth an average annual value of $3,650,000.”

The real question is what comes next? From a salary cap standpoint, this is where the VGK now sit.

I don’t have inside information on this but it feels pretty easy to follow the breadcrumbs here. It wouldn’t be Vegas if they weren’t eyeing another big fish to add to this group.

We also know that Vegas was interested in Mitch Marner when his name came up in trade talks.

With roughly $18 million in cap space, the VGK could throw roughly $10 million at Marner and use the remaining $8 million to fill out the rest of the roster. Something that feels very doable if they keep the cost low on the next goalie tandem. It definitely feels like that’s the direction Vegas is trying to map things out toward. Maybe I’m wrong but if we’ve learned anything from this management, they already have their eyes on their next star. Extending McNabb and mapping out the road to get there only becomes more clear.
