Branson Robinson Suffers Injury, Out For 2023 Season
Georgia is loaded everywhere but it may be time to be slightly concerned about the running back room in Athens to open to the 2023-24 College Football season. Kenny McIntosh departed for the NFL and now Branson Robinson has been ruled out for the entire upcoming season.
The sophomore running back suffered a ruptured patella tendon that will sideline him for the season.
“Branson had a non-contact ruptured patella tendon,” Smart said. “He will be out for the season. Unfortunately, he’ll get a full recovery but be out for the season.”
“It’s not going to affect our run-to-pass ratio. We have capable backs,” Smart said. “When healthy last year, he was coming into his own. He had a really good spring while he was going. Explosive, twitchy, could do some things in pass pro and catching the ball that other guys couldn’t.”
I can’t help but feel partially responsible for this. I took Robinson as my second round rookie pick in my fantasy league. My rookie picks have historically been cursed (Marcus Lattimore, David Wilson, and Justyn Ross being three notable examples). If I never took Robinson in fantasy, I’m slightly convinced this never happens to him.
Robinson, 19, is a really good player who showed serious promise as a freshman rushing for 330 yards and three touchdowns on 68 attempts. Robinson was expected to be part of the running back rotation in much larger role heading into this season. Kendall Milton is still there but is still hampered by ongoing hamstring injuries. Daijun Edwards is also still there. Andrew Paul will likely fill Robinson’s spot who is also coming back from a season ending injury last year.
