What are the things that keep you up at night? Not being able to pay rent? Not knowing what you’re going to eat? Having to do an annoying project for work or school? If you don’t have a franchise quarterback as an NFL GM, you’re going to get fired. Not having a quarterback is one of those things that is going to keep you up at night? Bills general manager Brandon Beane claims that he is sleeping better at night now that he has his franchise quarterback, Josh Allen.
Beane believes that Josh Allen is the answer long term for the Bills:
“I sleep a little bit better than I was last year at this time,” Beane said, via Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News. “It’s nice to know that we found a guy we believe in. We’ve got to do the right thing and build around him and add pieces, obviously, on offense.”
I would say Beane should feel encouraged by what he say from Allen but I don’t think you can say any of these rookie quarterbacks proved that they are bonified Super Bowl franchise quarterbacks yet. Allen showed that he was a much better runner than anticipated. He ran for 631 yards and 8 touchdowns in 11 starts. That’s the good news. The bad news is Allen has work to do in the passing game.
Allen threw for 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a rookie. That’s not great but he is still just a rookie. The wow plays that blew your pants off were still there but overall, Allen wasn’t an accurate quarterback as a rookie (52.8%).
The good news is that Nate Peterman is no longer on the roster so that has to make Beane sleep better. Anything and I mean anything… is better than that.
