Bobby Miller called up by Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have called up starting pitcher Bobby Miller after SP Julio Urias was placed on the 15-day injured reserve list, Bally Sports MLB insider Russ Dorsey reported Sunday.

Miller’s first start will be against a very good and aggressive Atlanta Braves team. It could be a pitching duel as Miller will face Braves ace Spencer Strider, one of the best starters in the National League.

Miller comes into a rotation that needs fresh arms, as Urias and Dustin May on the IL plus Walker Buehler still recovering from Tommy John surgery. With Miller in the mix, the starting rotation includes Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin and Noah Syndergaard.

Being selected in the first round (No. 29 overall) in the 2020 MLB draft, the potential of the Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect is limitless. Miller displays a pitching arsenal of a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball, a slider and a changeup, predominantly using a fastball or changeup that sinks to freeze batters.

In four starts with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Miller sported a 5.65 ERA with a 5.55 FIP and a 5.31 xFIP. He only struck out 19.7 percent of his batters in those four sports, but sports north of a 29.0 K% in each of his four previous seasons from High-A to Triple-A.

With the talent Miller showcases, his most probable comparison is his Dodgers teammate Walker Buehler. Not only are they on the same team, but they both possess good control, a lot of movement in their breaking balls and sneaky velocity that jumps on the batter.

If Miller has a good outing against the Braves, one of the best teams in the NL, Dodgers fans should expect to see him in the starting rotation as a Dodger.
