Bob Myers is open to returning to executive role in NBA

Former NBA executive Bob Myers isn’t ruling out a return to a front office after departing after the 2022-23 season.

Myers is one of the most successful general managers of the 20th century across any North American professional sport. He was the architect behind the Golden State Warriors dynasty around Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, winning NBA Titles in eight years.

In a Sirius XM Radio appearance on Friday, Myers, currently working as an analyst at ESPN, revealed he’s keeping the doors open for a return to the NBA.

“I imagine, at some point, [a general manager job] will come back around,” he said Saturday on Sirius XM Radio. “I’m not getting back in unless I know that answer.”

Myers continually built a team with a strong supporting cast to support Curry, Green and Thompson. That list included taking bets on Shaun Livingston, Leandro Barbosa, Zaza Pachulia, Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut, among others. He also made the wise decision to hire Steve Kerr as head coach instead of Mark Jackson, whose culture was a legitimate mess upon being fired.

For as much as he gets nowadays–whether it’s justified or not–the Warriors don’t win four titles without Kerr, who helped maximize the skillsets of each of their three star players with a motion-laden system. All of those players grew together and complemented one another, which is why they had such great success for over a decade.

Myers drafts weren’t perfect, but he pushed the right buttons at the right time. He understands how to cultivate a strong culture with good leadership–and he’s not afraid to push the chips to the middle to win.

I don’t expect this to happen this offseason, but I can see him re-entering that chair within the next two or three seasons. Where would you want to see him go? Let us know in the comments!
