The Blackhawks Need To Fire Kyle Davidson Before It’s Too Late
When people tell you who they are, believe them. Kyle Davidson, the Blackhawks’ general manager, has shown his hand. Davidson is a total dope and Chicago needs to fire him before it’s too late.
Chicago was given the gift that’s going to keep giving. Connor Bedard is going to establish himself as a top-five player in the league in the not-too-distant future. Bedard was regarded as a generational prospect for a reason. While playing for a terrible Blackhawks team, Bedard has 33 points in 39 games. That’s with basically no help.
I think people are underselling how terrible Chicago is. They’re four points up on the Sharks with the second worst record in the league. Davidson has also done next to nothing to improve the team.
Actually… that’s a lie. He’s done nothing except overpay the mediocre players on his own team. Nick Foligno got a comical extension. Ditto for Jason Dickinson. Apparently, the team is prepared to do the same with Petr Mrazek. All three have one thing in common. All three were acquired in salary dumps by other teams. Chicago has now decided they’re going to overpay three players that nobody wanted.
Only that would make sense to Davidson. Yes, in a league facing a serious cap crunch, let’s use our cap space to re-sign players nobody wanted. Keep in mind, that’s coming off the heels of overpaying Andreas Athanasiou.
This Blackhawks roster stinks. Don’t worry, Davidson has given away draft picks to go get Corey Perry (since waived), Anthony Beauvillier, and Rem Pitlick. Oh, and he got nothing on the Taylor Hall salary dump. Just have a peep at the transaction log. It’s a complete joke.
I haven’t even gotten to Seth Jones who is also part of the problem. Jones is overpaid and not good enough to be a number one defenseman on a contender. Apparently, only Davidson hasn’t figured that part out yet.
We have all of the evidence. Despite landing Bedard, this team has shown no sign of turning the corner and the general manager has done nothing except double down on his own gross roster. At some point, you have to take the keys away from a drunk driver. It’s the only way to proceed in Chicago. That is unless you want to waste the ELC years of Bedard, which they’re already doing a great job of.
We do get that the guy was only promoted because Stan Bowman lost his job. Just because Bowman lost his job, doesn’t make Davidson qualified to have one. The proof is right in front of you. The franchise better do something about it or they will waste the Bedard era.
